COVID-19 has sent hunger skyrocketing across the nation. As a result, 54 million Americans are experiencing persistent food insecurity. Overwhelmed by the growing demand, food pantries and soup kitchens across the nation are struggling to nourish hungry families.

On Thanksgiving Day, WhyHunger is partnering with Run for Good, a new fitness app, to host a national virtual Race to Give Thanks to raise funds and awareness about the 54 million Americans experiencing hunger and the emergency food providers working tirelessly to meet the need.

How It Works

Sign-up and participate in the virtual Race to Give Thanks on the Run for Good app, where you can easily invite your friends and family to support your effort through pledges and donations. On Thanksgiving Day, we invite you to run, walk or cycle 5.4 miles in solidarity with 54 million hungry Americans. You can exercise outside or indoors, and all the funds you raise will connect people in need to nutritious food.

The virtual race is designed with all skill levels in mind, and it’s ideal for first-timers and avid runners alike. Because this is a virtual race, you can get your friends and family to participate wherever they are around the globe! Participants can create a team or individual fundraising goal; wear professionally designed t-shirts or go out dressed in your favorite Thanksgiving-themed running gear.

100% of the funds raised will help support WhyHunger’s national Hunger Hotline, and online Find Food database that connects millions of children and their families with free, nutritious food close to home.
